Review of "BECOMING"

Becoming

An intimate, powerful, and inspiring memoir by the former First Lady of the United States

#1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • WATCH THE EMMY-NOMINATED NETFLIX ORIGINAL DOCUMENTARY • OPRAH’S BOOK CLUB PICK • NAACP IMAGE AWARD WINNER • ONE OF ESSENCE’S 50 MOST IMPACTFUL BLACK BOOKS OF THE PAST 50 YEARS

In a life filled with meaning and accomplishment, Michelle Obama has emerged as one of the most iconic and compelling women of our era. As First Lady of the United States of America—the first African American to serve in that role—she helped create the most welcoming and inclusive White House in history, while also establishing herself as a powerful advocate for women and girls in the U.S. and around the world, dramatically changing the ways that families pursue healthier and more active lives, and standing with her husband as he led America through some of its most harrowing moments. Along the way, she showed us a few dance moves, crushed Carpool Karaoke, and raised two down-to-earth daughters under an unforgiving media glare.

In her memoir, a work of deep reflection and mesmerizing storytelling, Michelle Obama invites readers into her world, chronicling the experiences that have shaped her—from her childhood on the South Side of Chicago to her years as an executive balancing the demands of motherhood and work, to her time spent at the world’s most famous address. With unerring honesty and lively wit, she describes her triumphs and her disappointments, both public and private, telling her full story as she has lived it—in her own words and on her own terms. Warm, wise, and revelatory, Becoming is the deeply personal reckoning of a woman of soul and substance who has steadily defied expectations—and whose story inspires us to do the same.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

I thought she did an really good job of showing us the human side of who she and Barack were. If a buddy of yours grew up to become the president or first spouse, and it was sort of a fairy tale, a book like this would show the underside, or the real side, of the process.

Just like Hillbilly Elegy by J.D. Vance, this book shows us how some Americans "make it" from the ground up, but that it's not easy. Making it is a quicksilver process, requiring such ingredients as intelligence, timing, hard work, luck, happenstance....it's scary how many things can impede the chances of good, smart kids. Michelle Obama chronicles how she managed to make it, and she deserved her good fortune, but she would be the first to tell you a lot of it wasn't up to her. Which makes you sad about all the kids left behind. Or let's be honest: all the kids who are murdered before they can fulfill their potential. Obama is frank with kids who're struggling against the odds, and in this as in so many other issues, she doesn't get down and helpless over the burdens. She encourages us to accept what is and work around it. I found that empowering.

Her description of meeting and getting to know, then falling in love with, Barack, is really interesting. It was NOT love at first sight! They became friends, and then sweethearts, and then, over time, deeply in love. We get to see what Barack is like--truly, that's the stellar aspect of this book, it's so candid! Michelle isn't afraid to complain and speak honestly; she struggles as a young adult and a working mother, then as a political spouse. You really see the sausage-works of political campaigns.

The book wasn't gripping, but it was interesting. I've always thought she was super-smart and clever, and that seems true, but when she mentions she's not overly introspective, I found that hard to believe. However, by the end of the book, I wondered if it was true, because she minimized some events in her life that would have been compelling had she gone deeper. She was the first / only black woman to do X, Y, and Z. I feel quite sure she ran into a hell of a lot more obstacles than she shares, and in that sense, she kind of minimizes her astronomical climb. How many kids from the hood get into Princeton and Harvard, and then succeed as well as she did? And when she got hired at the white-shoe law firm, what did that really feel like? Ah, well. A missed opportunity.

There is so much to like about this book, the little vignettes about life in the White House, for example. The policy issues were less interesting; the human issues more so. All in all, a worthwhile and enjoyable read.

And the story is interesting and intriguing. The prologue itself was so intriguing. I loved the imagination the author put into the story. After few pages in the book i found there is mention of cryo-caskets. If u don't know what that is you must really read the book.
The author has done a commendable work by maintaining the flow of the story. Without any doubt I can say that this book will never disappoint you. It's amazing and worth the time.

@mrityunjaysinha256

"Every single day empty spaces of my heart saws her path, few called me helpless and few called physcopath. Inspite of all these what I got in return was all her wrath."

Sometimes, We do not choose a path. The path chooses us to walk on. Destiny always sends a person who show us the right path. This is a narrative poem book where Viren Verma, a famous poet unfolds the journey of his love as well as career life.

The book, Memorable Memoir is a narrative poem book which revolves around the life of an author Viren Verma.

Review of "The Demons of Jaitraya"

Book: The Demons of Jaitraya
By: Shubira Prasad

The epics say, in the great War of Ramayana, a number of rakshasas escaped. They hid in the bowels of the Earth, in the water and in space and remained dormant for eons. In the 20th century of the Christian era, however, some of them reappeared in different forms to plague the Earth with Wars and illnesses. At the end of his war with Ravana, Rama had asked Hanuman to raise and train a contingent of warriors who would take birth multiple times on Earth, to contain the demons. Aishani and adheesh are two such warriors, blessed with divine weapons and powers to fight the world’s evils at present times. Read this exciting story to know who finally wins. The good or the evil? The demons of jaitraya is the first book of the trilogy of the war between demons and humans.

"The Demons of Jaitraya" is an epic saga which revolves around the live story of Aishani and Adheesh set against the backdrop of a magical and beautiful forest. The book has both the mythological tinge mixed with contemporary style. The plot of the book is well developed. The characters have a strong effect and maintain their part which adds up to it's beauty.

The plot was very enjoyable and intriguing. One would read the story at a stretch as it's too intersting. I love Aishani's strong determination. The title of the book is 💯 appropriate. The cover has been designed in a beautiful style.

The epic fantasy is overall an amazing read. Loved it.

The Review of Ikigai

Ikigai: The Japanese Secret to a Long and Happy Life

Book by Albert Liebermann and Hector Garcia

Genre: Self Help Book

Ikigai (生き甲斐) (pronounced [ikiɡai]) is a Japanese concept that means "a reason for being".
It gives you a reason to get up in the morning. Enjoying in your work, loving what you do, giving meaning to your existence. Combined with healthy eating and a nice living environment, your 'ikigai' is an important ingredient for healthy ageing.

“Our intuition and curiosity are very powerful internal compasses to help us connect with our ikigai,” Hector Garcia and Francesc Miralles write.

The book does a decent job of relating the concept of Ikigai to modern day psychology (with Frankl's Logotherapy from Man's Search for Meaning among others) and a few scientific references in a simple manner. It talks about how purpose plays an important role in a man's life and the different ways in which it manifests itself. It also tackles some ways to 'find your flow' and ensure that what you do receives 100% of your attention and that you enjoy whatever you are creating.

The book also discusses certain other Japanese concepts like takumi (specialized workers) and moai (connections with community or friend-circle). The brief discussions have the benefit of being to the point and simple but also pose the risk of trivializing them into regular self-help advice. The book also delves into Japanese perspectives on living life and persevering without getting caught up in artificially-created urgency. But again, maybe the authors wished for the readers to research more or meditate more on the content given the concise treatment of the same.

Ikigai is about feeling your work makes a difference in people’s lives

The chapters on diet and exercises have more details and thus, may be more useful. Certain foods are dealt with in greater detail as is the concept of 'hara hachi bu' wherein one eats only 80% of what would actually assuage his hunger. The chapter on exercises includes illustrations and steps. While they may suffice for some of the purposes mentioned in the book - the philosophy behind them, progressive increments and other essential details are missing or insufficient.

I was interested in the concept of Ikigai and wanted to read more about it. Despite being well-written and presenting modern applications, the book did not fulfill my requirements at all. Some of the condensed content made me think that the extended research, including on-site interviews, done by the authors for writing this book was clearly lost in translation or presentation in certain parts.

The hardcover is pretty and soothing with its matte texture. Inner pages are smooth and heavy with a cream tinge. The font size is good. The spine as well as pages hold up well. Overall, the book is quite light and sturdy.

Review of "Madhuleena"

Book: Madhuleena
By: Dr. Govind Sharma

Set in the fictional town of Rajapur, this is a unique unputdownable read.

The more desperate the situation in life, the more one wants an escape into fantasy. Call it a desire of the moth for the star, or the longing of a tormented soul for the drop of honey. Aakash, a bank theft accused, is so smitten by the ravishing beauty of Madhuleena that he forgets that he has to run away from the law. Meanwhile, the police officials get over-worked investigating the complaints that some rich and influential persons are honey-trapped by young and ambitious girls.

The book is full of twists and turns. Beginning from suspense with suspense throughout, the book held me stuck with it!!
The story begins with Aakash being accused of theft. His life wasn't easy since the beginning and then how he meets Madhuleena.

The story has a lot of stories embedded in it. Madhuleena's, Akash's, the doctor's and many.

The book is well paced with such a beautiful and intriguing storyline that kept me engrossed in it.

The chapters are well set with no lapses and a beautiful plot.

The language used is easy to understand.

The cover and title are 💯 appropriate.

Review of "Sunshine Town"

Book: Sunshine Town
By: Manish Arora

Sunshine Town is a contemporary fiction book which revolves around the life of the protagonist, Shlok. The setting of the story is in Varanasi. Shlok is just like another young boy who aims to make his parent's proud someday. The struggle of life, love and friendship is well narrated by the author.

The moment when one drowns due to lack of confidence for life's failure one just needs a helping hand who would pull him out of the darkness and build some confidence. The same happens with Shlok. The support of parent's is what one needs the most and especially when it's in teenage. The author portrays the love twist of Shlok is an amazing manner and the way.

The love life as well as the struggles of the life of a teenager are well explained and in such a manner that it keeps the reader engaged.

The cover is beautiful.
The story is not just a romance centered novel but a beautiful story of a teenager's life.
The pace of the book is well maintained with easy to grasp language.

Overall a beautiful read for me.

Review of "The Last Meal"

Book The Last Meal
By Yuno Imai

The story is about four inmates and their last meal. Though we all have heard about the last wish and the execution of prisoners but this story develops a strong emotion about the last meal and how the four characters; Chase, Fred, James and Peter.
The last meal is not mere meal but it a beautiful way to enjoy the last moment.

Each character has a different story and their wish about their last meal is different.
Chase was from a poor family and the last meal made him the happiest. On the other hand, one refused to fill the last meal form. And one does it for his child.

The story is having an emotional ending where a prisoner wishes to have Mother's made pie. And the effort by the jail authorities made me love the concept of the book.

Coming to the overall view of the book, the language used is easy and the illustrations in it will attract the young readers.
The cover is beautiful.

And overall the theme of the book is worth reading.

Black Lives Matter - Guest Post

Sadly, the colour of the skin don't just define a person's beauty. But also, it won't let you be treated equally. Hashtag-Black lives matter, Justice for George Floyd, All lives matter and what not, Internet is filled with all of this because, No one deserves to die by getting choked up till suffocation and breathlessness. No! Not when you're innocent. People coming on the streets, Burning buildings, Risking their lives, Because the people in authority, are white. The people in charge, Care more about their pride. Putting guns of people's heads, Beating them, And locking them inside, And still, no one will shut up. That means you need to learn what's right. Asking for equality, Speaking up for rights, As we're the citizens of the country. But it seems like, Government don't care about it's duty. All they wanna do is, Shut people up who fight . We also got to see a lot of hypocrisy in this fight of equality and living of black people. People bullies black kids at school, Public beating up a kind black man, assuming that he's stealing, Treating co-workers like shit because of the colour of their skin, Making fun of the black lady walking down the street. So many stories unheard, Justice un-served. I don't understand what's more messed up ? The system or the mentality ? So, I stand up today and ask, What's the point of destroying innocent people's lives, When all they ask for is ,basic human rights .

Review of "Frozen in Time"

Book: Frozen in time
By: Priya Das and Pallavi Sharma

Blurb:
Some love stories swim, float and then sink, to stay afloat till the world survives. They become a memory for the lifetime. The lovers might die, they might stay apart, but the love becomes eternal.

Through this book, we bring to you those eternal tales of love, that couldn't 'last' as per the norms of the society, but they definitely last a lifetime for the ones into them.

An entirely female-driven anthology of short stories/poetry that are "Frozen in Time". 30 storytellers, 30 ways of telling stories, stories that are different in nature, that depict love beyond any timeline, beyond all definitions.

Review:

The book "Frozen in time" is an all female anthology with the theme of Unrequited love.

It is a collection of poetries and stories with beautiful setting of plot.

I loved the poetries more than stories. Memoir and Halfway are one of my favorite one.

Half Done Love Story is the one I loved in prose.

Though each poetry and story is unique in their own way but they are well arranged in the anthology.

The words are deep and makes one emotional while reading it.

The language used is easy to understand.

The title and the cover are 💯 appropriate.

Review of "Celestial Descent"

Book: Celestial Descent
By: Kiran Sandhu

Celestial Descent is a collection of poetries with illustrations. The poems are categorised into 4 parts namely: Divine Encounters, Nature's Musings, Revered Touch and The Oneness.

The poetries are based on the events of our lives. The author has given life a beautiful meaning and defined it's path through the book. The words used by the poetess are extremely beautiful and have a deep meaning.

The life is all about the things or situations we encounter and how engage with it. The beauty of Nature and it's beautiful sound is a soothing for our soul. The feeling of love is all about the revered touch and the oneness is all we live for. It is the life and we need to dance in oneness.

The poems that I loved the most are "Walking with Guru Nanak" and "Miracles".
The book is well set and the illustrations add up to it's beauty.
The language used is lucid.

The cover is very beautiful.
The title is appropriate.
